The Pasty! They made it!!

William Treloar was a man of vision, and his vision is still alive 100 years later. In his year as Lord Mayor of London he wanted build a better future for disadvantaged children and I am sure he would be most delighted with what is now in place.

Tens of thousands of young people have benefited from his foresight and it is right that we celebrate the Centenary of what is now simply known as "“Treloar’s”.

Wiliam Treloar came from good Cornish stock, the family home having been in Helston. To commemorate the Cornish link, the plan is to carry out a “pilgrimage” from Helston to the home of Treloar’s, Alton in Hampshire. To see people of uncertain age walking along a main road is hardly entertaining stuff, so we have got together with our friends from Ginster’s Ltd to push a giant cornish pasty along the route. The pasty will be passed from town to town and county to county until we arrive in Alton on Saturday 13th September. We will depart from Helston on Monday 1st September and cover nearly 250 miles.

The intention, as always, is to raise money. The demands of the 21st Century have changed. The students have greater demands because of the more profound disabilities that are represented. New Halls of residence have to be built to accommodate their needs and the more stringent regulations that cover places such as Treloar’s. It is estimated that in excess of £2million has to be raised each year just to stand still.

Please look elsewhere on this website to see how you can help and to follow the lead up to the walk and the walk itself. For more information on Treloar's, visit their website at www.treloar.org.uk
